Our workshop and registered address is 2 Queens Court on Albert Road, which means Hythe is not an area we travel to, it is where we are. If you are in the town, we are minutes away.
Hythe properties and what they need
Hythe is a mix that changes street by street, and knowing which type of property we are walking into makes a real difference to how quickly a fault gets found.
The Victorian and Edwardian terraces around the High Street and Stade Street tend to have older pipework, some of it with lead sections still running in from the main and copper that is now fifty years old and thinning at the bends. Repeated small leaks on the same run in these properties usually mean the pipework itself has reached the end of its life rather than any one joint being at fault.
The seafront and Marine Parade properties deal with salt air, which is hard on external pipework, boiler flue terminals and condensate pipes. Anything outside is worth checking annually here rather than every few years.
The post-war housing out towards Palmarsh and along the Dymchurch Road is more consistent and usually straightforward gas installations, though many are now on their second or third boiler and some still have original heating pipework underneath.
The canal side and drainage
Properties backing onto the Royal Military Canal sit on ground with a high water table, and that changes how drainage behaves. Blockages clear differently and any excavation work needs planning rather than simply digging. If you have a drain that keeps blocking in the same place, a CCTV drain survey will tell you whether there is a defect or whether it is a build-up.
Hard water
The water supply across Hythe is hard, and it shows up in almost every job we attend. Scaled shower cartridges, furred immersion elements, kettling boilers and blocked plate heat exchangers all trace back to it. It is the single most common underlying cause of the faults we see here, which is why we recommend a magnetic filter on every heating system and, in some properties, a softener.
